Indian National League (INL) leader P.S. Mahin Haji, who was actively involved in various cultural and social activities in northern Kerala, died of age-related ailments at a private hospital here on Thursday.

Mahin Haji, 81, had been undergoing prolonged treatment for the last few months and the end came around 10 p.m., family sources said.

Mahin Haji was known for his principled stand in politics and considered as a father figure by local Indian Union Muslim League and INL leaders. The Haji had led the IUML and later the INL at the national level on various occasions. He entered politics as an IUML activist in 1953 and parted with the parent party to join the INL in 1995.
