: United Democratic Front (UDF) convener P.P. Thankachan on Sunday claimed that the State was witnessing a pro-UDF wave in the local bodies' elections.
In a statement here, Mr. Thankachan said the CPI (M) was indulging in violence in Kannur and other places since the UDF was cruising towards a sweeping victory. The Left Democratic Front (LDF) will not be able to secure an upper hand in the election by misusing power, violence and money power. The election results would be a setback for the CPI(M) and the government, he added.
Mr. Thankachan said the State Election Commission had ended further action against him after he expressed regret in connection with the conduct of a press conference at the official residence of the Leader of the Opposition.
The Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy has urged the State Election Commissioner to deploy more police personnel for the second phase of the local bodies elections in the context of the violence that took place in the first phase on Saturday.
