The tribal people of Punchakkolli Adivasi Colony joined hands with the local people to block a team of forest officials, led by Divisional Forest Officer (North) George P. Mathachan, in front of the Nellikkuthu forest station near Nilambur.

They were protesting against the increasing menace of wild elephants.

The protesters demanded that efforts be made to chase away elephants from the Punchakkolli route further into the forests and clearing of undergrowth along the route.

They staged a sit-in in front of the DFO’s jeep. The DFO and team were returning after examining a site for a check-dam to conserve water for wild animals.

The protesters withdrew their agitation after the intervention of civic officials.
