Petition to people’s representatives

Kerala Water Authority fails to give proper reply

Forum also takes

up the plight

of city roads

KOCHI: The Cochin Citizens Forum has petitioned Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan, the Union Ministers from the State, MLAs, and MPs over the disruption of drinking water supply to Kochi city for the last 11 days without any prior notice.

The petition alleged that the Kerala Water Authority (KWA) officials were not giving clear response even to the inquiries of the people’s representatives. Even before the disruption, water supply to the city was less than half the actual requirement, the petition said.

Among other things, the petition mentioned about the unmotorable state of the Kaloor-Kadavanthra Road and K.P. Vallon Road, the main arterial roads in the city. The roads, the petition alleged, were dug-up in the name of Hudco drinking water project.

The forum said that water-borne diseases would break out in the city at any time. The KWA officials were blatantly violating the right to live guaranteed by the Constitution, the petition said.
