Drop plan to bifurcate Palakkad division: BJP
: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has urged Railways to “end their neglect of the district” and “desist from the move to further bifurcate Palakkad Division to create the new Mangalore Division.”
The creation of Mangalore Division will threaten the very existence of Palakkad as a railway division, said BJP district unit president C. Krishnakumar while inaugurating a dharna in front of the Palakkad Railway Division office here on Thursday. Mr. Krishnakumar said the division was bifurcated a few years ago to create Salem Division, bringing down the income of Palakkad drastically. Hence, Palakkad Division would not survive yet another bifurcation.
Mr. Krishnakumar demanded that Railways start the work of the rail coach factory at Kanjikode for which the foundation stone was laid nearly a year ago. He also urged Railways to complete the doubling of the Palakkad-Pollachi line which has been going on for the past four years. The meeting was presided over by V. Chidambaram, BJP district unit secretary.
