Sometimes people are bowled over the immediate and positive response of the State Government like this noble gesture.

During his visit to Kozhikode last week, Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan did not forget to meet playwright K.T. Mohammed who is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the city. He announced that the State Government would give Rs.1 lakh towards Mr. Mohammed's treatment.

On the fifth day after the announcement, Minister for Culture and Education M.A. Baby arrived in Kozhikode and handed over the cheque to the ageing playwright. Mr. Baby said that K.T. Mohammed was an asset to the cultural sphere. Indeed the Manjeri-born K.T. Mohammed, who has made Kozhikode his home, had questioned the evils prevailing in society. Ithu Bhumiyanu (This is Earth) was a pathfinder in the field of the Malayalam theatre. He has also penned screenplays for at least 25 Malayalam films. Mr. Baby also said that the Government would explore the possibility of constructing a house for Mr. Mohammed. The Department of Culture would also think of constructing a house of Sharatchandra Marathe, Hindustani singer.
