The sweet voices of K.S. Chithra, Sujatha, Minmini, Arundhathi and Binny Krishnakumar, all successful playback singers, were first noticed at the light music contests for girls at the various editions of the State School Art Festival.

The 2013 edition of the contest at the Rose Lounge Auditorium here on Saturday afternoon proved that those illustrious names would have worthy successors, as participants of light music in HSS girls’ category mesmerised the packed audience with their dulcet voices and exceptional singing.

Some glitches

Some of them may have to improve their diction and some others may have been nervous at times, but there was no mistaking the quality.

Megha Johnson (MGEMHS, Njaliakuzhy, Kottayam) won the first prize for her superb rendition of ‘Rithu chakravarthinee…’ Neelima Sunil (Government Cotton Hill HSS, Thiruvananthapuram) came second and Anupama Sebastian (Holy Family HSS, Thrissur) came third.

In the boys’ category, V.G. Harikrishnan (GVHSS, Atholi, Kozhikode), won the first prize.

He had come second in Ghazal on Friday.

R. Annthakrishnan (GHSS, Ayaparambu, Alappuzha) and Vishnu S. Janarddanan (PEMHSS, Perinthalmanna, Malappuram) shared the second prize while Abhijith Ajith (MGMNHSS, Lakkattoor, Kottayam) came third.
