Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation K.C. Venugopal has ordered an investigation into the crack found on the runway of Karipur airport.

The runway had developed a crack two days ago raising concerns of air traffic security. Mr. Venugopal sought a report from Anil Srivastava, joint secretary in the Ministry of Civil Aviation, on the incident.

Probe into death

The Minister also sought an investigation into a recent incident in which a passenger heading for Muscat had collapsed and died at the airport. He asked Air India Chairman Rohit Nandan to inquire into the incident.

A section of the media had reported that V.V. Hamzakutty from Pappinissery died at the airport as he was not given any medical aid.
