An elephant found dead in a cardamom plantation at Kalyanathandu in Idukki on Sunday evening died of disease and not by consuming pesticide kept in a shed there, a top official of the nearby Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary, revealing the finding of a preliminary inquiry, said here on Monday.

The veterinary surgeon of the Forest Department conducted a post-mortem examination, and its report will be released soon, the official said. — Staff Reporter
