The State government will seek the participation of private investors to develop 10 mini fishing harbours in the State, Minister for Ports K. Babu has said.

He was speaking after laying the foundation stone for a zonal office of the Hydraulic Survey Department at Beypore, here, on Friday. Mr. Babu said the government would make a formal announcement on inviting private partners during the Emerging Kerala Meet scheduled to be held in April 2012.

“For the development of Beypore fishing harbour, the government has approached the National Fisheries Development Boa rd.

The works of the Puthiyap pa fishing harbour, estimated to cost Rs.2.89 crore, are now on the fast track,” he said.

Mr. Babu said the renovation works at the Koyilandy fishing harbour would conclude by the year-end.

“The government will shortly float tenders for developing the Chombal mini fishing harbour at a total project cost of Rs.3.36 lakh,” he said.

The Minister said the development of the Beypore port would be completed with the support of Infrastructures Kerala Ltd. (INKEL).

Minister for Social Welfare M.K. Muneer; M.K. Raghavan, MP; Mayor A.K. Premajam; and Managing Director of the Maritime Development Corporation K.K. Rajendran were present.
