Private bus services in the city stayed off the road on Saturday following a dawn-to-dusk strike by bus operators alleging involvement of some police officials in the death of a bus conductor from Palakkottuvayal.

Leaders of the Bus Operators’ Association alleged that the police officials involved in mentally torturing Kizhakkdathu Jayanandan, who later committed suicide, were yet to be booked. They claimed that the officials from the Kasaba station were instrumental in Jayanandan’s suicide, as they hounded him in the name of a ‘fabricated’ case.

The association leaders said Saturday’s strike was a token protest, and they would go on an indefinite strike if the police officials involved were not arrested.
