The indefinite strike called by private bus workers in the city from Thursday midnight was postponed following an assurance given by PWD Minister V.K. Ebrahim Kunju. The Minister agreed to hold a ministerial level meeting to consider favourably the district Private Bus Workers Coordination Committee’s demand for a wage hike. District Collector P.I. Sheikh Pareeth conveyed the Minister’s assurance at an hour-long meeting held at the Collector’s camp office late on Thursday night.

The workers owing affiliation to different unions had issued the strike call demanding a 50 per cent wage hike, as most of them worked for about 14 hours at a stretch.
