Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will lay the foundation stone for the new building for the Kottayam Press Club on Saturday.

Kottayam Press Club, housed in a building in the heart of the town, has completed 40 years and is among the oldest in the State.

The new five-story building that comes up near the KSRTC bus station will be complete with a modern press conference hall, seminar hall, auditorium, library, media research centre, archives and other facilities. It has been envisaged as a green building with provisions for solar power and rain water harvesting facilities, said press club president Joseph Sebastian and secretary Shalu Mathew. Saturday’s function will be inaugurated by K. M. Mani, Minister for Finance.
