President Pranab Mukherjee will unveil the former Chief Minister K. Karunakaran’s statue on the Kanakakunnu Palace grounds on Friday.

The ceremony will be held at 4.15 p.m., followed by a public function at the University Senate Hall at 4.25 p.m., according to a Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee statement here. KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala will preside over the function, which will be attended by Governor Nikhil Kumar, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, and party leaders.

The President will leave the city by 5.50 p.m. for Kochi.

The statue is being erected under the auspices of the Karunakaran Foundation, headed by Mr. Chennithala.

In an article released for publication, Mr. Chennithala said Karunakaran, who was Chief Minister four times, had left an indelible mark on Kerala politics and social life.
