T.N. Pratapan, MLA, Congress leader and advocate of green politics, has urged Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala to intervene in favour of taking over Halcyon Castle in Kovalam.

In a letter sent to these leaders on Thursday, Mr. Pratapan wanted the government to decide on taking over the controversial piece of property prior to the convening of an all-party meeting.

He said that though the Kerala High Court had struck down the government ordinance for taking over the castle, the status quo continued, as a result of which resort owners had now come forward for leasing it on easy terms. Though such proposals sound attractive, it would in effect go against the interests of Kerala, he maintained.
