A district conference of the Kerala State Prohibition Council, a voluntary organisation, here on Tuesday urged the State government to give powers to the local bodies to decide on prohibition in their jurisdictions. Inaugurating the conference, Eyacheri Kunhikrishnan, general secretary of the council, said that though this was accepted by the United Democratic Front (UDF) government in principle, the subcommittee appointed to go into the issue should be allowed to function without any interference and made to submit its report immediately. Prasad Thriparayar, president of the council's district unit, presided over the conference.
