KOLLAM: The post-poll days will witness new political equations in the country, similar to the coming together of the Pattali Makkal Katchi and the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam on Saturday, Communist Party of India (Marxist) Polit Bureau member S. Ramachandran Pillai has said.

He was speaking at a meet-the-press organised by the Kollam Press Club on Sunday.

On whether Left parties will support the Congress to form a government to keep the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) out of power, he said the Congress and the BJP would not get the numbers to think in terms of forming a government.

Mr. Ramachandran Pillai said that while there was no understanding over seat-sharing with the Bahujan Samaj Party, the Left parties would join hands with it to prevent the Congress and the BJP from coming to power.

On whether the Left parties would support BSP leader Mayawati or Janata Dal (Secular) leader H.D. Deva Gowda for the Prime Minister’s post, he said the issue would be addressed only after the results were out.

The CPI(M) leader said he did not feel that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was a communal organisation. After a long period in jail, a big change had come about in PDP leader Abdul Nasir Maudany and the CPI(M) welcomed it.
