A case has been registered by the north police here following the death of four persons when a house boat sank here on Saturday.

Alappuzha SP Thomson Jose told The Hindu that the Alappuzha DySP C.F. Robert would investigate into the incident.

Alappuzha North CI G. Ajayanath told The Hindu that the north police have registered a case of unnatural death as of now. “More details of the charge sheet will be prepared after a detailed investigation,” he said.

K.N. Ashokan, owner of ‘All Seasons,’ the boat that sank, said the total damage to the boat that sank was Rs.4 lakh. “The boat had only third party insurance (only passengers will be covered by the insurance),” Mr. Ashokan told reporters here on Saturday. He had fallen unconscious after the incident and was admitted to the General Hospital here.

Port Director Jacob Thomas told The Hindu that a meeting of Port Department officials would be convened at the District Collectorate here at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
