A police horse collapsed and died while being ridden back to the mounted police stables here on Sunday.
The State Mounted Police identified the mare as ‘Venus.’ She served the force for nearly a decade and was 16 years old. The police said the horse died in front of the Golf Club.
Local residents accused the police of not rushing veterinarians to the spot. They attempted to raise the animal in vain.
Witnesses said the horse struggled for nearly an hour. The police used a crane to haul the carcass onto the cargo hold of one of its recovery trucks. It was transported to the stables and buried on the premises later.
