The Kannur District Police Cooperative Society was brought under administrator rule on Wednesday to end the administrative crisis in the society.

K. Sudhakaran, Senior Inspector of Cooperatives at the office of the Joint Registrar of Cooperatives here, was posted as administrator of the society. Cooperative Department officials here said the administrator was posted to avert an administrative crisis in the society.

Kannapuram sub-inspector M. Govindan and Kannur traffic station assistant sub-inspector P.V. Rajeevan, vice-president and secretary respectively of the society, had been placed under suspension following the disciplinary action by Superintendent of Police Rahul R. Nair, ex officio president of the society.

The pro-Left Democratic Front administrative body, now disbanded, was charged with holding the society’s meeting and withdrawing cash from its account without the knowledge of the district police chief.

The administrative committee was disbanded and the Cooperative Department official appointed the administrator in the wake of several complaints from society members that they could not take loans or withdraw deposits because of the administrative crisis in the cooperative society.
