KOCHI: The city police have arrested more than 108 persons for various offences during an intensive combing operation. The drive was led by P. Vijayan, City Police Commissioner.
Around 110 patrolling teams have been pressed into service for the special drive. As many as, 288 cases were registered in the vehicle checking done during Thursday night.
The police registered 86 cases causing public nuisance under inebriation and 69 wanted criminals were arrested. Seventy-two cases were registered for rash and careless driving and drunken driving. Searches were conducted in 44 hotels and lodges as part of the drive.
One person was drowned, while bathing in a temple pond on Thursday evening. Renie Joseph, 18, son of Benny Joseph, Chalikkavattom, was bathing at the Maramkulangara temple pond when the accident occurred, said the Thripunithura police.
Venugopal, 50, of Pulikaparambu Veedu, Thekkumbhagam, Thripunithura, was reported missing since January 13, the police said.
