Meetings in remembrance of Kathakali actor Kottakkal Krishankutty Nair and chenda maestro Kalamandalam Kesavan will also be held.

Thrissur: Various programmes will be held at the Kerala Kalamandalam Deemed University for Art and Culture on May 28 to observe the 85th birth anniversary of percussion maestro Kalamandalam Krishnankutty Poduval.

Meetings in remembrance of Kathakali actor Kottakkal Krishankutty Nair and chenda maestro Kalamandalam Kesavan will also be held.

Writer Killimangalam Vasudevan Namboodiripad will inaugurate a discussion on ‘Contemporary Kathakali Melam’. Percussion maestro Mattannur Sankarankutty will preside. The speakers will include M. P. Surendran, M. V. Narayanan, Kalamandalam Narayanan Nair, Cherpulassery Sivan, Kurur Vasudevan Namboodiri, Prabhakara Poduval, Sadanam Vasudevan, Kunjunni, Raman Namboodiri, Unnikrishnan and Vijayakrishnan.

Kalamandalam Rama Chakyar will present Chakyar Koothu in the afternoon. ‘Sauryagunam’, a book on Krishnankutty Poduval written by K. P. Babudas, will be released at a public meeting in the evening.

Kalamandalam Vice-Chancellor K. G. Poulose will hand over the first copy of the book to writer Madambu Kunjukuttan.

An all-night Kathakali show, featuring the plays, Subhadraharanam’, ‘Rajasooyam’ and ‘Duryodhana Vadhom’, will follow. Kalamandalam Vasu Pisharody and Sadanam Krishnankutty will play Arjuna and Balabhadra respectively in ‘Subhadraharanam’. Kottakkal Devadas will don the role of Sisupala in ‘Rajasuyam’.

Kalamandalam Mukundan, Ramadas and Ramachandran Unnithan will enact the characters, Krishna, Duryodhana and Raudrabheema, in ‘Duryodhana Vadhom’.

The other actors include Kalamandalam Vipin, Shucheendranath, Kashinathan, Arun Warrier, Neeraj, Arun Ramesh, Thulasi Kumar and Chinosh Balan. The musicians include Mohanakrishnan, Bhavadas, Sivadas, Achuthan, Babu Namboodiri, Vinod, Balarqaman, Unnikrishnan, Vijayakrishnan, Narayanan Namboodiri, Basundaran, Ramadas, Gopikuttan, Sasikumar and Haridas.
