: Help desks with teachers and members of the parent-teacher associations will function in schools till the process of admission to Plus One in Higher Secondary schools in the State are completed.

Speaking after releasing the prospectus for the Higher Secondary Single Window for 2013-14 here on Wednesday, Minister for Education P.K. Abdu Rabb said the help desks to be headed by the respective Principals would guide the students and parents in filling the application and clarify doubts.

The Education Minister said help desks would be set up in the district, regional and State level to ensure that admissions to Plus One were carried out in a transparent manner. The applications would be issued from May 10 and the last date for submission is May 24. The trial allotment will be on June 4 and the first allotment, on June 10. The main allotment will conclude on June 25. The classes will begin on June 26 and admissions will close on August 17. The Minister said CBSE students who appeared for the Board examinations would only be considered for the main allotment under the single window for Plus One admission.

Replying to queries, he said 15 per cent marks had been given as moderation for the Higher Secondary examination held in March 2013, the results of which were announced on Wednesday. ‘”Last year, it was 20 per cent and I am personally against giving moderation”.

Mr. Rabb admitted that problems in the questions in Physics led to the decision to give 19 marks to the students. It has been decided that only Higher Secondary Teachers would be allowed to set question papers henceforth.

The Education Minister said there were 58,935 merit seats for various professional courses in the State and 58,730 for degree courses this year. Of the professional merit seats, 2,500 were for MBBS and 52,976 for Engineering.

Plus One results

The Minister said the results of the Plus One examination would be published by June first week. As many as 66 camps were held in 14 districts to publish the results of the HSE at the earliest. The option given to the teachers also helped to complete the valuation of answer sheets by April 20. The Save a Year (SAY)/Improvement Examination will be held from May 27 to 31. The application for the scrutiny and revaluation of the answer sheets will be accepted only till May 22 in the respective schools.
