KANNUR: The Concrete Workers’ Supervisors Association (CWSA) has demanded governmental intervention to check the rise in price of construction materials.

Association district president V.V. Rajeevan and secretary A. Venugopal said at a press conference here on Monday that the government should slash taxes on construction materials such as cement and steel to stabilise prices.

The government should initiate welfare measures for masons and construction workers for attracting the youth to the construction sector.

The association’s other demands included provision for insurance coverage for construction workers at the time of approval of building plans, projects for developing alternative materials to meet shortage of river sand and loan facilities for masons to purchase construction equipment.
