Seminar on disaster management

T. Nandakumar, Member, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and former Secretary to government of India, has urged Railways to have “better disaster management systems, particularly in removing injured passengers from overturned bogies.”

Inaugurating a seminar on disaster management organised by the Palakkad Railway Division here on Saturday, he said “the present practice of using gas cutters and welding machines would create fear of danger to those inside the damaged bogies”.

He said the information regarding accidents should be clear about the number of dead and the injured and the condition of other passengers in the bogies involved in the accident.

Addressing the seminar, Divisional Railway Manager Piyush Agarwal said the Palakkad Division had the infrastructure to face any crisis.

The seminar was addressed by District Collector P.M. Ali Asgar Pasha and Additional DRM Mohan Menon, among others.
