The Kerala Water Authority (KWA) personnel repaired the 1,200 mm pre-stressed concrete (PSC) transmission mainline carrying water from Aruvikkara to the Observatory Hills tank by 2 a.m. on Wednesday and water supply was restored. The leak on the pipeline, due to a crack in the joint near the Karakulam bridge on the Thiruvananthapuram- Shencottah road, was detected around 4 p.m. on Tuesday, said a KWA official.

Supply was restored to affected areas such as General Hospital and surrounding areas, Pattoor, Chakka, Pettah, Statue, Thampanoor, Vanchiyoor, and parts of Veli, KWA Superintending Engineer K. Sashi said. However, supply to certain houses situated in elevated areas could have been delayed as charging was started afresh, he added.

This was the second pipe burst in the city in the past four days.
