Thrissur: Playback singer P. Jayachandran inaugurated a music festival here on Monday organised by Piano, a cultural organisation, in memory of musician Philip V. Francis.

At the function, Mr. Jayachandran was conferred Piano’s first Bhavagayaka Ratnam title by film maker Sobahana Parameswaran Nair and writer K.V. Ramanadhan. Social activist T.A. Sunder Menon presented a statuette to the singer.

Following the function Pianist Stephen Devassy performed a show. Bass guitarist Josy John, flautist Josy Alappuzha and drummer Shomi Davis accompanied him.

On the second day of the four-day festival, Pandit Vinayak Torvi and Gayatri would present a Hindustani duet. Musicians Prakash Chitnis and Alamcode Hari would present a harmonium-santoor jugalbandi on Wednesday. A Carnatic vocal recital by Madurai Balamani Eswar would follow.

The festival would conclude on Thursday with ‘Gems’, a programme of vintage film numbers. Sreenivas, Pradeep Somasundaran, Sobha Balamurali, Viswanathan and Maneesha would participate in the programme.
