The Popular Front of India (PFI) leaders said that the number of “innocent” people held in custody under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in the State rose to 56 with the arrest of 21 youths from Narath here last month. PFI district secretary C.M. Naseer and district committee members Thwaha Thangal and K. Ibrahim said at a press conference here on Wednesday that the 21 youths arrested from Narath had jailed under the Act at a time when there was protest against the Act as it was used against the marginalised.

A campaign led by PFI State president Karamana Ashraf Moulavi against the Act would reach here on May 9 and would be received at Payyannur, Taliparamba, Pazhayangadi, Pappinisseri, Puthiyatheru, Kannur, Edakkad, Thalassery, Panur, Koothuparamba, Mattannur and Iritty.
