Compensation for rain-hit farmers of Kuttanad announced

The Cabinet on Wednesday decided to revise the pay scales of employees of Kerala State Financial Enterprises Ltd. (KSFE) with effect from August 1, 2007.

Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan told the media that the Cabinet had approved the long-term agreement with workers submitted by the management of the KSFE in this regard.

For SLR workers

The Cabinet also approved the pay revision for the SLR (temporary) workers of the Fisheries Department.

It also decided to provide compensation to the farmers of Kuttanad who had lost crops in heavy rain.

Crop loss in Thakazhi, Punnapra, Kainakari, Nedumudi, Pulickal and Edathua areas would be compensated after assessing the extent of damage.

Land for bridge

The Cabinet decided to acquire land for a bridge proposed to be built parallel to the old Moidu bridge on the National Highway between Thalassery and Kannur on a fast-track basis.

The Chief Minister said a decision had not been taken on nominating members of the previous governing council of the Thiruvananthapuram Golf Club, including the president, to the new governing council.

Reports about a move to include them in the governing council proposed to be constituted after take over of the Club by the government had raised a controversy.

The previous council had challenged the takeover before courts and some of the cases are still pending.
