The State government will organise pattaya melas in various districts to distribute title deeds or possession certificates to over 15,000 landless plantation workers, fish workers, tribal people and settler farmers in the High Ranges and other sections.

Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran said here on Thursday that Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan would inaugurate the first of these melas in Kasaragod on Friday. The government proposed to give land to all landless people in the district. Nearly 1,000 families living in sea and river purambokes would be given title deeds. The mela in Palakkad district would be held on January 15. Two melas would be held in Idukki on January 19 — at Nedumkandam in the forenoon and Devicolam in the evening.
