A day after the local body elections, all political parties expect a favourable verdict from people.
CPI(M) district secretary K.P. Sathish Chandran expressed the hope that the LDF would register a “historic win” in the district. He made the conclusion after gathering inputs from the cadres of alliance parties, he said.
DCC president K. Veluthambu said the Congress-led United Democratic Front would garner half the seats of the 16-division district panchayat and refuted the LDF claim that the alliance would wrest Uduma and Puthige divisions. BJP State general secretary K. Surendran claimed that his party would get at least 10 to 12 grama panchayats. The party presently has six.
IUML district president Cherkalam Abdulla was confident that the UDF will increase its tally to 24 from the present 14 grama panchayats as the polling went off peacefully. The counting of votes would begin at 7 a.m. on October 27.
