A painting exhibition of artist Soori Mangalath, based on a poetry collection of cine actor Urmila Unni, has started at the Art Gallery of the Kerala Lalithakala Akademi here.

The paintings are based on a poetry collection of the actor, named “Panchalika”, based on the concept of womanhood.

“My poems speak about maturing of woman and its various stages. I tried to portray the woman as a child, lover, mother and widow. I think it has certain significance in the present context when numerous injustices are done towards women,” said Ms. Unni about her poetry collection. “The role of women in society is very important, and through this exhibition I tried to explore the various aspects of womanhood,” said Mangalath about his exhibition.

The exhibition was inaugurated by the actor in the presence of artists and art lovers. The event was organised by PASC, an arts and sports club. The exhibition will be on till Sunday.
