VS cites land acquisition problems as reason for delay in development works

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Government has taken steps to renew the agreement with the Thiruvananthapuram Road Development Company for completing the road development works in the capital. Replying to questions regarding this in the Assembly on Wednesday, Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan said that the Government had not renewed the agreement with Punj Lloyd which had taken up the road works under the Capital City Region Development Project.

Works on the Vellayambalam- Sasthamangalam, Palayam-Attakulangara, Nandavanam- Bakery, Thampanoor- Overbridge, Nalumukku- Collectorate, Thakaraparambu- Choorakattupalayam, Pattoor- Collectorate, Vanross- Ootukuzhi, Pattom- Marappalam-Kowdiyar, Pattom- Medical College- Ulloor- Kochulloor, Kowdiyar- Peroorkada- Vazhayila, Attakulangara- Sreevarahom-Eenchakkal, Murnjapalam- Kumarapuram- Poonthi- Anamukhom-NH Bypass roads had not yet been completed.

New jail

Delay in land acquisition and the failure of contractors to complete work on the acquired land within the set timeframe were the main reasons which delayed the work, he said.

Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said that the new jail on the Poojapura Central Jail premises was likely to be opened this year itself.
