District Collector P.M. Ali Asgar Pasha has directed fireworks manufacturing units to produce licences for verification before the Additional District Magistrate (ADM) before March 15.
They should also produce registers with details of employees working in each unit. Licences of those failing to comply with the directive would not be renewed, the Collector said. He said these decisions were taken at a meeting of officials, owners of fireworks manufacturing units and temple committee officer-bearers at the Collectorate here on Thursday.
The meeting directed the manufacturers not to store more than the permitted quantity of 15 kg explosives. Mr. Pasha said under no circumstances the use of potassium chloride in manufacturing fireworks would be allowed. But on inspection it was found that the chemical was widely used in the manufacturing of firecrackers.
He said the Explosives Controller would conduct classes for workers of the fireworks units in the district. He directed the festival committee office-bearers to ensure safety measures during fireworks displays.
Safety squads formed
District Collector P.M. Ali Asgar Pasha has said that safety measures of all fire cracker units in the district will be strictly monitored by two special squads headed by the Revenue Divisional Officers (RDOs) of Palakkad and Ottapalam divisions.
