KOLLAM: The two-day 18th State conference of the Kerala Government Optometrists’ Association will begin here on Saturday.
It will be inaugurated by Minister for Water Resources N.K. Premachandran. Mayor N. Padmalochanan will deliver the keynote address.
The conference will include the annual day celebrations of the Kerala Optometry Club, a seminar and a continuing medical education programme.
Association general secretary K.R. Biju and conference general convener R. Benoy said the recruitment of contract workers under the National Rural Health Mission was eroding the importance of the Health Department. The association demanded that the government reconsider the decision to wind up the Ophthalmology Department at General Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram.
Mr. Benoy said the seminar in connection with the conference will be inaugurated by the former acting chairman of the State Human Rights Commission S. Balaraman.
