Mobilising Kudumbasree workers, the government will on Friday launch Oorjasree, a venture to promote non-conventional energy equipment, Panchayat and Social Justice Minister M.K. Muneer has said.

Mr.Muneer told the media here on Thursday that centres for distributing, marketing and servicing non-conventional energy equipment, and creating awareness about such facilities would be set up in all districts this year. The first centre would be set up on the Museum compound on February 28.

It has been proposed to set up 200 marketing and service centres at all blocks and urban local bodies within three years.

This will provide employment to 2,000 persons and help distribute one lakh equipment among the people.

Apart from solar lanterns, rooftop panels, UPS, heater, cooker, biogas plant and such other gadgets will be distributed under the venture.

The objectives of the venture are spreading the message of energy conservation and its necessity, marketing of non-conventional energy gadgets and their service, and making it a source of livelihood.

The drive will be launched with Kudumbasree workers taking an energy conservation pledge on Friday. Power Minister Aryadan Mohammed will inaugurate the State-level function at the Satyan Memorial hall here at 3 p.m.


A campaign will be launched at various levels of the Kudumbasree movement in February and March. Various programmes have been planned for students and women to popularise such equipment.

As part of the energy conservation drive, 35 lakh Kudumabsree members will switch off one light each at their homes for an hour and save 38 lakh units of power. The distribution of energy efficient equipment is expected to conserve four lakh units a month, he said.
