Veteran Communist leader V.S. Achuthanandan on Wednesday described poet O.N.V. Kurup as a creative genius who had been unwavering in his commitment to the downtrodden.
Presenting the Mahakavi M.P. Appan Award instituted by the Kerala Kala Sahithya Academy to the poet here, Mr. Achuthanandan recalled that ONV had burst into the Malayalam poetry scene in the 1940s when Kerala was going through the throes of a unique political and social transformation. Age had not withered the youthful vigour of his poetry, nor the changes over the last seven decades stalled his commitment to the struggling sections.
