One person was killed and several injured when a speeding private bus rammed a shop at Maradu on Saturday. The accident occurred in front of the Kalathra school at around 12.30 p.m.

Traffic police said that the bus was trying to speed through the traffic hold-up, when it lost control. The bus hit an autorickshaw and a couple of two wheelers before running into the shop and also damaging a house nearby.

Narayana Pillai, 78, of Thirumuttathu, Maradu, who was standing near the shop, was killed in the accident. The police said that the condition of Swaran, 22, of Orissa, who was injured in the accident, continued to be critical.
