The police on Thursday arrested a man wanted in several cases of temple theft.

After being alerted by local people, a police team led by Irinjalakuda Circle Inspector T.S. Sinoj and Sub-Inspector Anil T. Meppulli nabbed Heladasan, 47, wanted in more than 150 cases in Ernakulam and Thrissur districts.

He was arrested after he allegedly broke into the Kannikulangara Bhagavathy Temple in Konathukunnu.

According to the police, he allegedly burgled temples after securing the keys of the sanctum sanctorums from temple offices.

He had been convicted in about 50 cases and was released from jail in 2007, the police said.
