The security officials at the Cochin airport on Thursday nabbed a person on charges of stealing baggage from the international terminal here.

The accused was identified as one Ramachandran (54) from Alappuzha, who is now residing at New Mumbai. He was arrested from the terminal exit while attempting to leave the building with four stolen baggage after tampering the tags attached to it.

During questioning Ramachandran revealed that he had picked the luggage from the conveyor belts while the international passengers queued up for emigration check-in. He had landed at the international terminal here from a Mumbai flight that operates in the international sector at 3.30 a.m.

Officials said CIAL had been receiving complaints on baggage loss for a while especially during the wee hours.

A breakthrough in the investigations was obtained during the examination of CCTV footages last week.

Ramachandran was handed over to Nedumbassery police and was booked for theft under IPC section 397. He was later remanded to judicial custody.
