Ernakulam Crime Branch arrested a person in connection with a murder committed in January 2012. Tinu Thomas, manager with an estate in Kuruppampady, was found hacked to death on January 21, and the local police could not make any progress in the investigation.

It was subsequently handed over to the Crime Branch team, which arrested Sunil Kumar, 41, of Manniparayil, Kuruppampady. Investigations showed that he hacked Tinu after a tiff over the latter trespassing into the estate frequently.

A person named Thankachan from Sultan Bathery was brought to the city and one of his kidneys was removed without observing any of the legal procedures for such a transplant. The incident was reported from a city hospital a couple of days ago, said police sources.
