Kozhikode: The Ombudsman for Local Self-Government Institutions has asked the Kozhikode Corporation to clarify its stand on setting up a slaughterhouse in the city.

Taking a suo moto case based on newspaper reports regarding a press conference of the Beef Merchants Association, Ombudsman T.K. Chandrashekaradas asked the civic body to give a statement at its next sitting on September 27.

Six years ago, the corporation had closed down the beef slaughterhouse at Kothi, which was established in 1943. The authorities had then promised a new one would be set up with modern facilities.

However, the corporation failed to honour its promise, the association said.
