It will use manpower of the aged effectively: Muneer

Minister for Social Welfare M.K. Muneer has said that the government will effectively implement the Old Age Policy in the State in six months.

He was speaking after inaugurating a State-level programme in connection with World Elderly Day at Kambalakkad in the district on Tuesday.

Mr. Muneer said the policy had been designed to utilise the manpower of the elderly in the State in an effective manner.

A working group, comprising experts from six departments, had been constituted for the successful implementation of the policy.

The group would submit a comprehensive report to the State within two months.

The government would implement the policy on the basis of the report by utilising a fund earmarked in the State Budget for the purpose.

All issues of the elderly would be properly addressed in the policy. The policy was expected to make a radical change in the standard of living of the aged in society, Mr. Muneer said.

Inaugurating a newly constructed building of the government women’s home at Kaniyampetta in the district, Mr. Muneer said the government would set up a gender park in the district if it got five acres of land for the purpose.

The Minister laid the foundation stone for an observation home for children and a special children’s home.
