Striking staff want officers also to be paid

The Joint Forum of Officers and Employees of ITI Ltd. here on a strike in front of the company for the past 37 days demanding payment of salary have rejected the offer of the management to pay it to the employees only.

In a statement here on Tuesday, A. Muraleedharan, general secretary, ITI Employees’ Union, and K. Karunakaran, general secretary, ITI Employees Association, said the offer of salary to the employees by the corporate management at Bangalore could not be accepted. The officers should also be paid salary for the past three months.

The satyagraha in front of the Kanjikode unit is being organised by the 650 officers and employees. The forum has launched an indefinite strike and stopped work on the major national projects under way at the unit. The union leader said all the 8,000 employees of the company’s units at Palakkad, Bangalore, Rai Bareli, Mangapur, and Srinagar had not got their salary since August.
