: Salvatore Pennacchio, Apostolic Nuncio to India, will inaugurate the Bishop Jerome Institute (BJI), at a function to be held at the Fatima Mata National College grounds on May 14. Kollam Bishop Stanley Roman will preside.

The BJI is a higher education technical institute under the management of the Bishop Jerome Foundation functioning under the Latin Catholic Diocese of Kollam. Secretary of the foundation Rajesh Martin said the aim of the BJI is to impart technical education in order to foster a scientific temper that leads to academic excellence.

College Principal John M. George said the BJI is committed to provide university education in a Christian atmosphere to deserving students of the Catholic community, in particular, and also to other students irrespective of caste or creed. The institute has been set up in memory of the first native Bishop of Kollam Jerome M. Fernandez.

At the inaugural function, Bishop Emeritus of Kollam Joseph G. Fernandez will deliver the invocation and Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Consumer Affairs K.V. Thomas will deliver the keynote address. Ministers M.A. Baby and P.K. Gurudasan, Kollam MP, N. Peethambara Kurup, Mayor Prasanna Earnest, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kerala A. Jayakrishnan and secretary to the President of India Christy Fernandez will speak.
