THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Nair Service Society (NSS) is organising a demonstration and a public meeting here on Saturday in protest against the wrong polices of the Central and State governments.
M. Sangeeth Kumar, convener of the programme, told newsmen here on Friday that the demonstration in which five-lakh people were expected to take part would start from the Museum Junction at 2.30 p.m.
It would culminate in a public meeting which would be inaugurated by NSS general secretary P.K. Narayana Panicker at the Putherikandam Maidan. NSS president P.V. Neelakanta Pillai would preside over the meeting.
He described the programme as the third stage of the NSS protest against the government’s failure to take action on a memorandum submitted by it to Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan. Through the memorandum, the NSS had demanded timely reforms in the reservation policy being followed in appointments to government service.
In the case of appointments being made through the Public Service Commission (PSC), it wanted the vacancies to be considered in units of two as per the reservation norms instead of the present units of 20.
