The Nair Service Society (NSS) has called upon the Central government to implement the recommendations of the Commission chaired by Maj. Gen (Rtd.) S R Sinho for Forward Communities before the upcoming Parliament elections. The editorial in the latest edition of the NSS mouthpiece ‘Service’ alleges neglect on the part of the Central government to the demands of the economically backward sections among the forward communities. “It is unbecoming of a democratically elected government to turn a blind eye to a section of the people, even as the Constitution ensures equality for all, the editorial said.

It was in 2006 that the first UPA government constituted the Commission to recommend the criteria for identifying the economically backward among the forward communities. The Commission was also expected to propose suitable welfare measures for the segment. The Commission had submitted its report in July 2010 to the then Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment.

“The government has not only failed to make the recommendations pubic, but also take any action to take these recommendations forward, unlike in the case of other Commissions,”the editorial alleged.

National issue

The editorial reminded the national parties that the issue was not confined to any State, but concerned the entire nation where a section of the society was kept out of the advantage of reservation or any other benefits till date.
