THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan and Industries Minister Elamaram Karim on Thursday clarified that they had no differences over establishment of Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in the State.

The Chief Minister said the Left parties and the Kerala Government had clear policies regarding establishment of such zones. He had only stated that the idea of establishing such zones would not be allowed to be misused, while releasing the draft Information Technology (IT) policy.

Mr. Achuthanandan said there was no conflict between the draft Industrial and IT policies of the Government. All assistance would be provided for establishing industrial units in the State.

The policies would be finalised after eliciting public opinion.

The Industries Minister said the proposal in the draft Industrial Policy was about forming SEZs suitable to the conditions of Kerala. The draft policy would come for the approval of the Cabinet only after the Left Democratic Front discussed it.

Both the Chief Minister and the Industries Minister noted that the Centre was reviewing its policy of sanctioning SEZs.

Mr. Karim added that the State Government would take a decision on establishing SEZs only after the Centre finalised the policy.
