The postal services at Irimpanam will not be downgraded, said a statement issued by P.K. Haridas, the Postmaster General, Central Region. No orders have been issued or will be issued to downgrade the sub post office to a grameen dak (branch) office, it said. A sit-in was held at Irimpanam recently against the alleged move of the postal department to close down the sub office. There is also no proposal to merge Shanmugam Road post office (682 031) located at the head of the Broadway Bazaar with Ernakulam North post office (682 018) located on Providence Road, said the statement.

It said that the post office users were misinformed that a non-delivery post office at Banerji Road was recently closed as part of a policy to close down offices. However, the shifting had been necessitated because the lease of the rented premises could not be extended. The shifting has not inconvenienced public access to postal services as the North post office is only 200 metres away.
