New-generation movies are not bogged down by the burden of stars, film critic C.S. Venkiteswaran has said.

Talking at an Open Forum organised as part of a film festival organised by the Montage Movie Club at Manjeri here on Saturday, he said new-generation Malayalam movies faced Malayali communities across the world.

Apart from Mr. Venkiteswaran, film-makers Ranjit Shankar and Shery, and critic G.P. Ramachandran led the discussions.

Presence of youth

The concept of good films did not distance itself from that of commercially successful ones, Mr. Shankar said.

He welcomed the new trend wherein youngsters came into film-making in groups. Films like Jules and Jim , Yaanam , Marathon, and Bhavam were screened on Saturday.

Film-makers K.R. Mohanan and Prakash Bare, and critic V.K. Joseph will attend an Open Forum on Sunday.
